Description

Technological advancement in the automotive world has been highlighted by the progressive increase in on-board electronics, this is a reality in street and competition cars. One of the recent innovations when it comes to onboard electronics is the replacement of the pneumatic system responsible for activating the relief valve (wastegate) with an electronic system with an electric actuator. The renowned TURBOSMART has developed a line of electronic wastegates that allow precise control of the pressure in the intake manifold, eliminating a series of necessary components in the pneumatic system, ranging from hoses and springs to the CO2 cylinder.

In addition to precision, simplified installation and adjustments, the electronic wastegate eliminates limitations that exist in the traditional pneumatic system, such as the need for a pressure sensor in the valve head, and the existence of a minimum pressure related to the wastegate spring. If the collector geometry allows it, the boost can be set from zero to “all that goes”, directly from the screen of your FuelTech ECU (FT500 / FT500LITE / FT550 / FT550LITE / FT600) through the laptop, using FTManager.

• Easy adjustments

The electronic valve design aims to achieve maximum adjustment capacity, eliminating the “minimum pressure” with the elimination of the spring system, it is possible to achieve the ideal adjustment for the engine and usage regime. Common questions

• Will the Turbosmart Wastegate fit my flange?

Yes, if you use a flange compatible with generation V TurboSmart relief valves, the new E-gate will fit perfectly, with the same flange mounting and orientation. The electric actuator housing is different from pneumatically operated valves, so you need to check if there is space in the engine compartment for the actuator housing.

• How fast is the TurboSmart Electronic Wastegate?

Very fast, 72mm per second, full stroke can occur in 290ms.

• What spring options can I use?

Only one option: none. The TurboSmart eWG is completely adjustable without the need for a spring. It can act on pressure (boost) even with high counter-pressure, and it does this without any spring. Nothing to replace, ever. It also has a system called “zero-back-drive” to reduce electrical energy consumption.

• Can I use an eWG instead of my compressed air (CO2) system?

Yes you can, in fact this would be one of the situations in which eWG would be ideal. Without the need for a pressure cylinder (bottle), air lines and solenoids (or injection nozzles), replacing everything with the electronic wastegate.

• What do I need to control eWG?

A FuelTech ECU from the PowerFT line (FT500 / FT500LITE / FT550 / FT550LITE / FT600), a FT Dual Power Driver , an available input (two inputs if you want to read the eWG temperature - recommended) and two yellow outputs. FuelTech allows self-calibration and closed pressure loop, making the process very practical and easy.

• Can I rotate the housing relative to the flange?

Yes, the eWG's modular construction method allows the housing to freely rotate in relation to the flange, increasing the possibilities of compatibility with the space available in the engine compartment.
