Peak and Hold PRO Injector Driver Manual

Description

The Peak and Hold PRO Injector Driver is an advanced current control module designed to control low impedance injectors.

It has 8 channels for injectors, a 26-way automotive connector and different levels of protection for the engine in case an injector or connection fails. In general, competition and/or high-flow injectors use low-impedance internal coils with a resistance of less than 7 Ohms . This allows them to have a much shorter response time than a high impedance injector.

These coils with lower impedance imply a higher drive current and require control of the opening current and nominal “peak” current and “hold” current , otherwise the injector can quickly heat up and burn out.

With the Peak and Hold PRO Injector Driver control, it is possible to apply a higher initial current to allow the injector to quickly open the “peak” current and then reduce the current to a value that, in general, corresponds to 1⁄ 4 of the initial “hold” current .

The Peak and Hold PRO Injector Driver module is also compatible with high impedance injectors above 7 ohms , making it possible to use all protection and diagnostic functions.

This reduces the injector's dead time - the time between the injector receiving the electrical stimulus and actually starting to inject fuel .

Installation

FuelTech offers some options to facilitate your installation:

2 meter wiring harness is recommended for new designs, with module connector and male/female CAN connectors
Connector kit assists in the manufacturing/modification process of your electrical harness.
Adapter harness was developed for projects replacing two Peak and Hold with the new P&H PRO INJECTOR DRIVER, making installation easy and quick!

Protections

The Peak and Hold PRO Injector Driver is capable of identifying the following faults:

Injector disconnected
Shorted injector
Overheating
Module integrity check failures generate status event and are written to the log. For each failure it is possible to define the protection level, choosing:
Alert in the ECU the PRO Injector Driver module sends an alert to the PowerFT ECU
Protection is defined on the map, in the Alerts Configuration, through the ECU or FTManager screen
Disable module o Turns off the injectors o Turns off the relay output o Turns off the second module if the communication wire is connected

Diagnosis

Individual detection of disconnected or shorted injector.
Individual log channels with time to reach peak current, allowing injector defects to be identified.
Logs battery voltage and module temperature.
Log records the defined current settings.
